Eye Care Tips for Our Patients in Fort McMurray & Lloydminster

Eye care in Fort McMurray and Lloydminster is readily available from licensed professionals. The Eyewear Place is pleased to provide this service, but there are ways for you to take care of your eyes between visits so you can enjoy the best ocular health possible. Take a look at some of these tips by our eye doctor in Fort McMurray and Lloydminster eye care specialists and optometrists!

Eat the right things. A good diet will ensure that you get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to take care of itself and your eyes are no exception. When you eat fruits and veggies like carrots and bell peppers, your body absorbs beta-carotene, which is great for your eyes. Eating fish rich in omega-3 fats, like salmon, will also aid the health of your eyes. Keep a healthy balance of these foods in your diet!

Protect your eyes. Did you know that UV rays are harmful to your eyes? That's why it's important to wear sunglasses that provide UV protection. Sunglasses that just make everything darker don't provide the protection that you need, so make sure the ones you buy specifically state that they protect against UV rays.

Take a break. Staring at a screen for too long can have damaging effects on your eyes. If you find yourself looking at a computer, phone or television for prolonged periods of time, make sure you take breaks and focus on something father away—about 20 feet—to stimulate the focus balance in your eyes.

Contact lenses. As a general rule, if you wear contact lenses, be sure not to leave them in overnight. This can damage the surface of your eyes. Lenses also limit the amount of oxygen your eyes can absorb, so taking them out will help your eyes replenish. Never leave in your contacts for more than 18 hours at a time.

Visit your optometrist. A yearly visit to the optometrist will keep your eyes in top shape and your prescriptions current. Eyes change over time, so don't assume your prescription will stay the same. Optometrists can also spot certain diseases before any other health care provider, due to the visibility of veins and arteries in your eyes. Conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and allergies can be spotted by an optometrist and treated sooner.

If you notice anything out of the ordinary, call your optometrist for eye care. Blurry or fuzzy vision, double vision or eye pain can signal the need for eye care right away. For the best eye care, call The Eyewear Place to make an appointment! The Eyewear Place has locations in Lloydminster and Fort McMurray. Your eye doctor in Lloydminster or our other locations will provide expert eye care services.
